"S"
clubs are clubs for High School students who want to volunteer to serve their
school and community in a positive way. These clubs are sponsored by local Soroptimist
clubs who inspire students to improve their own lives, and to improve the lives
of women & girls in schools and in the local community by working on meaningful
service projects. Together they are working to cooperate with teachers and staff
at their schools to create a positive school experience with high standards and
ideals. The "S" club experience inspires students to take on leadership
roles which will help prepare them for future roles in the business and professional
world.
"S" club Presidents & Vice
Presidents in the Sierra Pacific Region are invited to attend a "Leadership"
meeting in the fall along with their "S" club school advisor and local
Soroptimist club advisors. This day long meeting will be educational, teaching
students such things as how to run a club meeting and teaching about the Mission
of Soroptimist and "S" club. School and club advisors will learn about
the role of advisors to "S" club. Lunch and snacks will be served and
fun activities will be held.
A second Region-wide
"S" club meeting will be held in the spring. This meeting will be a
fun "rally-type" meeting where "S" club members will be invited
to attend and to share information about their "S" club fund raising
and service project events that were held throughout the school year. Included
in the agenda for the day will be a motivational speaker and the Mary Ellen George
Award interviews will take place that day. Lunch and snacks will be served. Members
from all 23 "S" clubs throughout the Soroptimist Sierra Pacific Region
will be invited to attend each of the one day meetings. Club & school advisors
will be emailed registration information for each of these one day events.
The
Mary Ellen George Award is given at "S" Club Conference to a deserving
"S" Club student who has been a member of "S" club for a minimum
of one year and is graduating Senior planning on attending college. The number
of awards and the amount of the Award is determined each year.
