LOS BANOS SOROPTIMIST NEWSFLASH!

Soroptimist International of Los Banos is a volunteer service organization for women in business, management and the professions. We are part of Soroptimist International, which has four Federations. Our Federation is Soroptimist International of the Americas. We are a part of District IV in California's Sierra Pacific Region. We welcome new members who would like to work as a group to make our community and world a better place for women and girls.

Our service projects include the sponsorship of "S" clubs at Los Banos High school and San Luis High school where students are encouraged to embrace volunteerism, good citizenship and women and girl-focused community service projects. A "Girl's Self Esteem" event for 7th, 8th and 9th grade students is also sponsored by our local Soroptimist club. This event features curriculum by the Dove corporation which focuses on building self esteem in girls. Also featured at the event are: an "un-fashion" fashion show, games, art projects, self defense lessons, prizes, healthy snacks and lunch and goodie bags. Each March the club joins Soroptimists from all over the world in "Saturday of Service" where Soroptimists work on projects which serve women and girls in their communities. Past Saturday of Service events in Los Banos featured visiting a local convalescent home, feeding the homeless and donating items to a domestic violence agency.

Fund raising events include S.I. of Los Banos' signature event, "A Victorian Tea," which features a Tea luncheon and special opportunity drawings. A pre-Tea event is held the night before the Tea and features a Wine and Cheese reception with viewing of the member's beautifully decorated Tea tables. An up-scale Silent Auction is also held at the pre-Tea event. Other club fundraisers include the annual "Holiday See's Candy Sale" in November and December and the "Dicken's Craft Faire" held the first week-end in December.
